LITTLE ROCK, Ark., May 27- The Arkansas RimRockers were recognized by the Little Rock School District Safe and Drug/Tobacco Free Schools and Communities Coalition for their volunteer contributions throughout the year. The Robert Sarver Memorial Award is presented to businesses who contribute time and effort in the prevention of substance abuse in school children. The Little Rock School District presented the RimRockers the award for First Year Organization Community Leaders for their outstanding contribution toward promoting a drug free community.
The RimRockers staff is blessed to have players who see the importance of children avoiding drugs and alcohol, Emily Wade, director of community relations said. Not only are the RimRockers committed to drug awareness, but the health and well being of children throughout the state of Arkansas.
The NBDL, the NBAs Development League, just completed its fourth season. The league includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), as well as Albuquerque (N.M.), Tulsa (Okla.) and Austin and Fort Worth (Texas).
The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBAs umbrella. Thirty-four (34) players have been called up the NBA on 50 separate occasions. Nine former NBDL coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 29 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the leagues inaugural season in November 2001. Six additional front office executives have earned positions with other major league sports.
