Arkansas RimRockers News Release

Little Rock, Arkansas March 26 - The Austin Toros (23-21) evened the season series with the Arkansas RimRockers (23-21) tonight at Alltel Arena by defeating Arkansas 102-98. Each team won four of the eight season match ups.

The Arkansas RimRockers took an early lead on the home court and jumped out to a 29-21 first quarter lead. Clay Tucker and Marcus Campbell had hot hands for the RimRockers, each pouring in 8 points. Campbell also dominated the paint with 7 rebounds as the RimRockers out rebounded the Toros 14-6.

Brian Jackson contributed 8 points during the second quarter to help the RimRockers build a 12 point lead, but Scott Merritt came off the bench to score four for the Toros and aid in Austin's come-back effort. Although the Toros matched the RimRockers shot for shot, the RimRockers continued to control the pace of the game and by half-time the score was 48-40 in the RimRockers' favor.

By the third quarter, the Toro's had warmed up and proceed to outscore the RimRockers 31-28. Marcus Fizer had a break-out quarter, going 6-10 from the field and scored 12 points. Without the help of Myron Allen, who connected on a three-pointer late in the third, the RimRockers would not have been able to hang on to the lead they built in the first half. They allowed the Toros to out shoot them from the field 68.2 percent to 60.0 percent.

They also let the Toros run with eight fast break points and put-away 26 points in the paint.

"We didn't do well down the stretch," RimRockers head coach Andy Stoglin said. "We started off well, especially considering we were short handed tonight, but we didn't execute in the end. It comes down to decision making. It's about picking the right shots. We just didn't fight this one out very well."

The final quarter of the night brought disappointment to the RimRockers. They gave up an 11 point lead and allowed the Toros to take the win. Omar Thomas scored 11 points off the bench for Austin while Jamar Smith grabbed 4 rebounds. The RimRockers only shot 40 percent during the quarter and got into foul trouble, allowing the Toros 10 points from the free-throw line. Fizer's free throw with three minutes remaining tied the game at 90 and the Toros patiently pulled away from the RimRockers to finish the game.

Marcus Fizer led the competition in scoring with 29 points and finished with 7 assists. The RimRockers were led by Olu Famutimi who scored 19 points. Brian Jackson and Marcus Campbell were the game's only double-double players. Both finished with 14 points, while Jackson finished with 10 rebounds and Campbell with 14.

The RimRockers play next at Alltel Arena on March 30 against the Tulsa 66ers. Tip-off is set for 7:30 with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
