
Richmond to Host International Friendly

RICHMOND, VA â (Friday, April 23, 2004) â The Richmond Kickers are pleased to host an international friendly versus Nottingham Forest of the English Nationwide Division One League. The exhibition will take place on Friday, July 16, 2004 at 7:00pm at the University of Richmond Stadium. Tickets are general admission and are available for $14.00 per person through the Kickers office at (804) 644-KICK.
Nottingham Forest will travel to the United States as a part of their preseason schedule, taking on D.C. United on July 14th. After the Kickers match on July 16th, they will travel to Virginia Beach to take on the Mariners on July 20th.
"We will be spending 12 days in the United States and will be combining games against quality opposition like the Richmond Kickers with intensive fitness work," says Mark Arthur, Chief Executive Officer of Nottingham Forest. "The University of Richmond will be our base and we're looking forward to forging close links with the Kickers during our stay."
Based in McLean, VA and having a large workforce in Richmond, Capital One is among the largest providers of MasterCard and Visa credit cards in the world. As the front-of-jersey sponsor of Nottingham Forest, Capital One will be involved with the marketing and promotions of this match.

The first official match played by Nottingham Forest took place on March 22, 1866 and the Nottingham Forest Football Club was established in 1867. After a brief stint in the English Second Division and then the Third Division, Nottingham Forest has maintained a position in the First Division since the 1956-57. The 2004 season marks the 25th anniversary of Nottingham Forest winning the European Cup in 1979.
"We had to put our pre-season plans on hold for a while as we found ourselves in a battle to avoid relegation from the First Division," Arthur continues. "But now that we appear to have secured our First Division status for next season, we can look forward to our pre-season programme."
