Richmond Raiders News Release
The Richmond Raiders (6-2) outscored the Alabama Hammers (2-6) 65 to 59 in Huntsville Friday evening to remain in second place in Professional Indoor Football League play. Richmond scored on its first possession but fell behind before taking the lead 30-24 just before halftime.
Richmond retained the lead from then on, at one point surging ahead by 20. Late in the fourth quarter, however, Alabama scored 14 unanswered points to pull within six, but a 21-yard touchdown pass from Richmond quarterback Antwon Young to wide receiver to Hakeem Moore on the next Richmond possession made the score 65-52 with only 1:26 left on the clock.
A pass from Alabama quarterback Arvell Nelson to wide receiver Mico McSwain pushed Alabama to within six once again with only 30 seconds remaining. But the ensuing on-side kick attempt by Alabama failed, and Richmond was able to run out the clock.
Richmond Quarterback Antwon Young completed 24 of 46 passes for 289 yards and seven touchdowns. Richmond Wide Receiver Hakeem Moore had an outstanding game, catching 12 passes and scoring five touchdowns. Richmond's Brent Trice led the defense with four unassisted and two assisted tackles for a total of six. Maurice Thorne of the Raiders intercepted a Arvell Nelson pass and took it 15 yards for a score.
The Richmond Raiders are back at home on Saturday, May 19, when they host the Columbus Lions. The Alabama Hammers take on the league-leading Albany Panthers at home.
