Richmond Raiders Vs Knoxville Nighthawks Game Preview

March 21, 2012 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Richmond Raiders News Release

The game between Richmond Raiders (1-1) and the Knoxville Nighthawks (0-1) scheduled for Saturday night at the Richmond Coliseum may prove to be another high-scoring, seesaw battle that's almost certain to keep the home team Raiders crowd glued to the edge of their seats. The Nighthawks scored 59 points on the road in their season opener against the Columbus Lions this past Saturday night. But the Lions put 64 points on the board to win the game. The Raiders, on the other hand, tamed the Lions 64 to 58 in their season opener on March 10. It goes without saying, those were two close games and a lot of scoring, which bodes well for the likely entertainment value of the upcoming contest.

The Raiders lost 40 to 28 on the road to the 2011 League Champion Albany Panthers this past Saturday but were driving for a go-ahead score with less than two minutes to go when Panther defensive back, Corey Rue, picked off an Antwon Young pass and took it almost the length of the field for a score, icing the game for Albany.

Nonetheless, the Raiders proved they can move the ball against a strong defense with 14 first downs compared to nine for Albany and 242 yards total yards compared to only 126 for the Panthers. Antwon Young completed 14 of 37 passes for 168 yards and showed he is a major threat on his feet, gaining 74 yards on 11 carries, even after subtracting yardage for a couple of sacks. The week prior against the Lions, Young completed 16 passes on 28 attempts for 172 years and five touchdowns. He also carried the ball nine times for 54 yards in that game.
