Richmond Raiders News Release
Richmond, VA""""The Richmond Raiders Professional Indoor Football Team has a new field. The 17,000 square-foot surface is constructed of state-of-the-art Shaw Sportexe DieterTurfî, and was laid, cut, and painted at the Richmond Coliseum. The field will now be taken up and stored until it is put down for the Raiders first home game on Saturday, March 10 against the Columbus Georgia Lions. Raiders' home games are played March through June on Saturday nights beginning at 7 p.m. at the Coliseum.
Raiders' owner, Elizabeth Fraizer said, "We are delighted to make this new playing surface available to our players and opponents. With thick pile and substantial padding, the field will play and perform as well or better than any to be found anywhere, indoor or out.
Indoor playing football fields are 50 yards long with eight-yard end zones. They are formed in sections that fit together and are connected underneath with Velcroî fasteners so that they can be removed, rolled up and stored between games.
This will be the Raiders third season in Richmond. The team has joined a few past season rivals and some new additions in the newly formed Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) for 2012. The team's competition will include the Albany (GA) Panthers, the Alabama Hammers, the Louisiana Swashbucklers, the Columbus (GA) Lions, and the Knoxville Nighthawks.
