Richmond Raiders News Release
Richmond, VA--The Richmond Raiders Professional Indoor Football Team has signed three players to its 2012 preseason roster. They are Antwun Young, a 6'4" 225 lb quarterback, Pierre Lee, a 6'1" 185 lb defensive back, and T. C. Stevens, a 5'10' 180 lb kicker.
Antwun Young, a Richmond native who played college ball at Villanova, returns to the Raiders from the 2011 squad, which he joined late in the season after injuries sidelined previous starters. Young started the final two games, leading the Raiders to victories in both, including the final-game 88 to 6 romp over the Fayetteville Force. Young completed 20 of 36 passes in that game for 266 yards and seven TDs. He also rushed for 72 yards on only four carries, scoring two touchdowns himself on the ground. The Raiders scored on 12 of their 14 possessions and broke a number of team records in that game.
Head Coach James Fuller said, "Young is a talented, mobile quarterback, and I believe he can become one of the best in the League. This year he will have the benefit of a full training camp under his belt. We expect that to pay off for him and for the team."
Pierre Lee, a veteran of professional indoor football, played college ball at Virginia State where he was a two-time All-CIAA Performer. Coach Fuller said, "Pierre Lee has long arms. He is quick and he is fast. We expect him to be an important key for us in the defensive secondary."
T. C. Stevens played professional indoor football for the Rio Grande Valley Magic of the Lone Star Football League. A Virginia native who now lives in Charlottesville, Stevens was named to the All Old Dominion Athletic Conference Team while at Hampden-Sydney College. Coach Fuller said, "Stevens came to our tryouts and impressed us with the accuracy of his field goals. He nailed practically every one."
For the 2012 season, which begins March 10 at the Richmond Coliseum and runs through June 16, the Raiders will join a few past season rivals and some new additions in the newly-formed Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL). The competition will include the Albany (GA) Panthers, the Alabama Hammers, the Louisiana Swashbucklers, the Columbus (GA) Lions, and the Knoxville Nighthawks.
