Richmond edges Knoxville 60-57 on the road
June 9, 2012 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Richmond Raiders News Release
Knoxville (1-10) led number-two Richmond (9-2) for most of the night but could not hold on to win. Richmond, down by two touchdowns for much of the game, did not move into the lead until the fourth quarter. It was a hard fought contest that saw tempers flare.
Perhaps the deciding play of the game came with 3:06 remaining when Richmond defensive back Roshawn Marshall (Central Missouri State) picked off Knoxville QB Russell Hill's pass on the Raider goal line. Not only did Marshall end a late fourth quarter drive that would have put the Hawks ahead, he returned the ball the length of the field to score, pushing Richmond to a two-possession lead, 60-51.
Richmond Quarterback Antwon Young (Villanova) passed for 236 yards and picked up 43 on the ground. He passed five touchdowns and ran for one. Richmond wide receiver Jason Lovett (UVA Wise) caught five passes for 105 yards and three touchdowns.
Next Saturday evening, the Raiders will take on the Albany Panthers (10-1) at the Richmond Coliseum in a match up of the top two teams in the Professional Indoor Football League. The two last met on March 17 in Albany in a defensive battle that the Panthers won 40-28.
