Richmond Acquires Rights to Varhaug

Richmond, VA – The Richmond RiverDogs of the United Hockey League have acquired the rights to RW Mike Varhaug from the Columbus Stars in exchange for future considerations. Varhaug racked up 186 PIM in 33 with four clubs last season.

Varhaug spent part of last season with the Flint Generals. The Stars picked up Varhaug's UHL rights from Flint in a trade during the expansion draft in June. Varhuag, an Alberta native, has had three stints in the AHL. Varhaug led the UHL in major penalties in 2000-01 and was second in the league in majors in 2001-02

The RiverDogs now have 15 players under contract for the upcoming season. Murphy joins Kevin Carr, David Bagley, Paul Johnson, Brad Both, Michal Lanicek, Brad Cook, Derek Schutz, Darren Wetherill, Richard Pitirri, Maxime Gingras, Kevin St. Jacques, Brian Goudie, Dave Shields, and Jeremy Wray. Richmond has signed eight forwards, five defensemen, and two goalies. Richmond now has five veterans and three rookies under contract. Four players are former NHL draft picks. The ‘Dogs have also signed F/D Donald Seremak, and G Olivier Dannel to tryout agreements.
