Danbury Trashers News Release
Bruce Richardson netted his first two goals of the year in a wild one at the Danbury Ice Arena, as the Trashers came from a two-goal deficit to beat Ft. Wayne 5-4 on Sunday night.
Jim Duhart opened the scoring 3:49 into the first, and the Komets returned fire with goals a minute apart from Danny Stewart from Corey Lucas (16:43) and Colin Chaulk (17:39) with the assist going to Chris Grenville.
After only one infraction, a Danbury cross-check in the first period, the second saw seven minors called between the two teams. Fort Wayne's P.C. Drouin widened the lead to two goals with a tally 1:26 into the second frame. Danbury had both special team tallies of the period - a short handed goal from John Morlang from Rumun Ndur while Bruce Richardson sat for roughing, and a power play goal from Brad Wingfield.
Richardson gave the Trashers a 4-3 lead at 3:27 of the third period, with Wingfield getting the assist. The Komets rallied back, Grenville scoring just over a minute later. The deciding goal came 13 minutes into the third, as Richardson notched his second of the game.
Fort Wayne netminder Kelly Shields tunred aside 30 of 35 shots, while Guillaume Lavallee stopped 34 of 38 in his first professional start. The Trashers notched one power play goal, and their second short handed goal in two nights for Morlang.
Danbury takes in ice in Elmira, Friday, Oct. 22nd and Adirondack on the 23rd before returning to home ice to face Richmond in a week. The Trashers (2-1-0) return home to the Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon at 5:30pm to face Richmond for the first time this season. Tickets are available at Danburytrashers.com.
