San Antonio Scorpions News Release

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Monday, December 15, 2014) - The San Antonio Scorpions will have one of their midfield mainstays back in red and black for 2015 as El Salvadoran international Richard Menjivar's team option for 2015 has been exercised, announced Head Coach Alen Marcina and President/General Manager Howard Cornfield this afternoon.

"Richie is one of the bright young stars of our league and is someone that has competed against the best players in the world on the international stage," said Cornfield. "We're very pleased that he'll continue to be a part of the Scorpions family moving forward."

Menjivar was signed by San Antonio at the beginning of the 2014 season after spending 2013 with fellow North American Soccer League (NASL) side the Atlanta Silverbacks, where he earned league Best XI honors. Menjivar started all 19 games he appeared in for the Scorpions in addition to making eight starts for El Salvador. The 24-year-old scored his first international goal during last summer's Copa Centroamericana in a 1-0 win over Honduras. Overall, Menjivar has started 40 of the 41 NASL matches he's appeared in - including the last two championship matches - and has earned 18 caps for Los Cuscatlecos.

Prior to joining the NASL with the Silverbacks, Menjivar played collegiality for both the University of Evansville and Cal State Bakersfield. The California native also appeared internationally for both the United States and EL Salvador at the youth level.

The Scorpions will defend their championship when the NASL Spring Season kicks off in April of 2015. For information on Scorpions season tickets, call 210-495-8686 or visit sascorpions.com.
