
Rhinos Lose First Game of the 2015 USL Season 4-2 at Charlotte

Charlotte, NC - The Rochester Rhinos 19-game unbeaten streak to start the 2015 season ended with a 4-2 defeat tonight to the Charlotte Independence at Ramblewood Stadium. The Rhinos goals came from Grant Van De Casteele and Christian Volesky. Charlotte goal scorers were Tomaz Zahorski, Alex Martinez, Enozo Martinez and Carlos Alvarez.
The Rhinos scored the first goal of the match when Grant Van De Casteele scored off Jonny Mendoza's corner kick in the 34th minute. Charlotte answered two minutes later when Tomasz Zahorski scored off Alex Martinez's pass from across the box. Paolo Del Piccolo knocked down a header from Zahorski in the 38th minute and flicked the ball over an onrushing Brandon Miller to make it 2-1.
In the 51st minute, Enzo Martinez scored off a pass from Carlos Alvarez to make it 3-1 Charlotte. The Rhinos got the deficit to 3-2 when Christian Volesky chipped the ball over the Independence goal keeper Matt Lampson into an empty net. Charlotte scored the final goal of the game in the 61st minute when Carlos Alvarez scored on a penalty kick to give the Independence a 4-2 lead.
The Rhinos had several chances in the final twenty minutes to score but were unable to get one into the net. The loss drops the Rhinos record to 12-1-7 with 43 points. Their lead over second place Louisville is currently at five points (43-38).
The Rochester Rhinos next match is on Sunday, August 9th against the Richmond Kickers at Sahlen's Stadium. Gates open at 4:00pm with kickoff at 5:05pm.
