Rochester Rhinos News Release
The Rochester Rhinos will host the Wilmington Hammerheads at 7:05 PM in Sahlen's Stadium on Saturday, July 19th, 2014.
Rochester enters the match in fifth place in the USL PRO table with 27 points from 19 matches. The Rhinos have the second best defensive record in the league with only 15 goals conceded in 19 matches (0.789 goals against average). Rochester snapped a two match losing streak and a three match winless streak with a 3:0 victory over FC Dallas Reserves in Sahlen's Stadium on Friday, July 11th. After not scoring a goal in three consecutive matches, JC Banks scored his league leading sixth goal, Colin Rolfe scored his first league goal and added an assist, and Alec Sundly scored his first professional goal in the Rhinos biggest victory of the season. The goal was Rolfe's fourth of the season in all competitions after he tallied three goals in Rochester's run to the Fifth Round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
"We got a good result last time out against FC Dallas (Reserves)." Rhinos head coach Bob Lilley said. "We have a favorable schedule right now with a home game a week for the rest of the month. It's given us a chance to get our legs back after a busy month of June, and begin to focus on learning and improving in training. Getting results and points at home is going to be important for us the rest of the season. We're looking to build on the result that we got last weekend."
Rochester's captain Tyler Rosenlund continues to move up the Rhinos all-time lists after playing 90 minutes against FC Dallas Reserves last Friday night. If Rosenlund appears in Saturday night's match with Wilmington, then he will tie Kirk Wilson for ninth place on the club's all-time list for games played. Rosenlund is already ninth all-time in games started with 105 and 10th in minutes played with 9,148.
The Wilmington Hammerheads enter the match in eighth place in the table with 21 points from only 13 matches. Wilmington has two losses on the season, and six matches in hand on the Rhinos. If the Hammerheads can capture all of their outstanding 18 points it would propel them all the way up the table into second place. Wilmington is resolving one of their matches in hand on Friday, July 18th at Skyline Stadium against Harrisburg City Islanders, and back-to-back matches or multiple matches in a weekend will complicate the Hammerheads task of taking maximum points from their matches in hand.
Wilmington has already scored 20 goals in their first 13 matches of the season. Samuel Ochoa leads the way for the Hammerheads with four goals and five assists for 13 points. Ochoa is third in the league in assists and 11th in USL PRO in points. Wilmington announced an affiliation with Toronto FC during the off-season, and as a result Jordan Hamilton is currently on loan to the Hammerheads. The 18 year old loanee has four goals and two assists with Wilmington this season.
