(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Raging Rhinos (1-3-0, three points) will look to get back on the winning track as they host the defending A-League champion Montreal Impact (3-0-2, 11 points) at 7:35 p.m. at Frontier Field on Saturday, May 21st. The first 1,500 fans will receive a Rhinos T-shirt courtesy of Chase-Pitkin. The game can be heard on Fickle 93.3-FM and via webcast at www.rhinossoccer.com.
The Rhinos enter Saturday's game searching for their second win of the season. The team dropped two decisions in Puerto Rico this past weekend. Rochester lost 1-0 on Friday night in Puerto Rico. On Sunday, the Islanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring in the 10th and 22nd minutes. Former Rhinos players Corey Woolfolk and Noah Delgado hooked up for the winner as Woolfolk beat Scott Vallow for a 2-0 advantage. Rochester would cut the lead to one on Lenin Steenkamp's header in the 65th minute from Pato Aguilera. It was the third opportunity for Steenkamp in the second half. Minutes before, Steenkamp hit the crossbar with a header. Sunday's contest was the Rhinos' third straight game against the Islanders and second in three days. On Friday night, the Islanders used a perfectly struck shot from 35-yards out from Johanes Maliza in the 19th minute to defeat the Rhinos 1-0. The last time the Rhinos started a season 0-3-0 on the road was during in 1996. The team went 0-4-0 before defeating the Atlanta Ruckus in a shootout (1-1) on July 7, 1996.
On Sunday, defender Scott Schweitzer started his 150th game as a Rhino. Schweitzer has played 13,397 minutes with the club. Forward Doug Miller became the fifth Rhinos' player in franchise history to surpass 10,000 minutes with the team (10,014), following his 65-minute performance on Friday night at Puerto Rico. Forward Anthony Rougier played his first game as a Rhino on Friday night, after receiving his playing clearance from the Chinese Soccer Federation. Rougier, a member of the Trinidad and Tobago National Team, last played a full match on February 9th, when T&T lost 2-1 to the U.S. National Team in Trinidad.
The Impact enter Saturday's match unbeaten in five matches. The Impact are tied for second in the First Division with 11 points. Forward Kevin Wilson is fifth in the First Division in points with six (3+0). 2004 A-League Most Valuable Player goalkeeper Greg Sutton has four shutouts on the season and a 0.20 goals-against average. The Impact roster also features the 2004 A-league Defender of the Year Gabriel Gervais. Overall, the Rhinos are 12-16-2 all-time against the Impact. Rochester is 2-2-1 in their last five regular season games against Montreal and are 1-1 in its last two regular season games at Frontier Field.
