Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania - Rio Grande Valley FC (1-1-3) was handed its first loss of the campaign on Saturday night against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (2-1-3) on the road as they drop the match 2-0, its largest goal deficit thus-far.
The opening half was kept quiet on the scoresheet, Rio Grande possessed 54% of the period while managing to put up a single shot. The home side, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, placed five shots, one on target which hit woodwork via the foot of Anthony Lopez in the 44th minute, 0-0.
While inclement weather played a role in the pace of the match in the opening period, the pressure was evident in the midfield as each team attempted to find their lanes in the attacking third.
A new picture was painted in the second half as Pittsburgh got to work quickly, scoring off a crossing play developed from the left wing as Luke Biasi sent a short lob into the 6-yard box; Albert Dikwa redirected a ball into net, 1-0.
Kenardo Forbes placed a precise headed ball into the net at the 63rd minute, leaving Tyler Deric with no chance to react on the play as he snuck between defenders; Daniel Rovira was credited the assist with the crossing ball, 2-0.
Rio Grande was unable to find an answer for the relentless attacking effort from the Eastern conference side, as the Riverhounds took 9 total shots, four of which landed on target.
RGV FC return home to H-E-B Park to receive Memphis 901 FC on Saturday, April 22.
