Detroit City FC Draws 0-0 with Miami FC, Earning First League Shutout of 2023
April 15, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Detroit City FC News Release
Miami, Florida - Detroit City FC (1-4-1) was back on the road again on Saturday night, traveling to southern Florida to take on The Miami FC (0-2-4). Both sides battled hard and tried to break their respective goal droughts but the points were shared in a 0-0 draw at Riccardo Silva Stadium.
Detroit City FC has been kept scoreless in the USL Championship since their 3-1 win on the road to El Paso Locomotive on 3/18 and was looking to pounce on The Miami FC, who have had goalscoring troubles of their own, early on when Yazeed Matthews and Ben Morris linked up on the edge of the area. This would result in a powerful strike from Morris which the Miami goalkeeper saved.
From there, Le Rouge would lean on clever sequences of passing involving Adrian Billhardt, who made his first league start for the club this evening, with the final ball always being the struggle for the squad.
The Miami FC would fail to generate many dangerous chances of their own in the first half as both clubs went into the half scoreless.
The most threatening chance of the game was created early in the second half by The Miami FC off of a set piece when goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher was the quickest to react, getting both hands on a chance from close range to keep the match scoreless.
Despite their scoring struggles, Detroit City FC can hold their heads high as they earned their first clean sheet in the USL Championship in 2023 despite injury troubles at the back keeping out defenders Stephen Carroll and Matt Lewis.
Le Rouge will next take the pitch on Saturday, April 22 when they are on the road yet again, traveling to take on Sacramento Republic FC of the Western Conference.
