RGV FC Kicks off 12 Days of Toros with Colonias Unidas

December 1, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) - Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC kicked off its 12 Days of Toros campaign as the club serves the Rio Grande Valley community for 12 days during the holiday season. The organization will give back to the RGV, which runs from Rio Grande City to South Padre Island. The Valley, home of the Toros, is comprised of four counties, and one family.

For the opening day of 12 Days of Toros, RGV FC volunteered at Colonias Unidas to beautify and build restoration around their facility. Colonias Unidas is a non-profit community-based organization whose mission is to improve the lives of colonia residents in Starr County, a rural community which has one of the highest levels of poverty in the country.

Colonias Unidas is currently focused on providing educational and cultural opportunities to families in an effort to improve the quality of life. It is an after-school program that offers educational programs to youth and adults. In addition, it offers health fairs, cultural and art projects and other community activities.

The Toros assisted Colonias Unidas by cleaning up the grounds of the facility, restoring their gardening center, updating their technology services and re-painting the community's P.O. Box center.

"It's a pleasure to be able to give back to the communities we serve," said Ron Patel, President of RGV FC Toros. "We believe in putting action behind our words-we mean what we say when we say that we are 'Cuatro Condados, Una Familia' and that 'Unidos Podemos'. It's more than just a battle cry for our club - it's at the center of everything we do."

The club will be at Big Heroes Inc. in Brownsville, Texas on Thursday, December 3 for Day 2 of 12 Days of Toros.
