RGV FC Earn 3-1 Win over Real Monarchs on the Road

HERRIMAN, Utah - Rio Grande Valley FC (12-11-8; 44 pts.) earn a 3-1 road win over Real Monarchs SLC (5-19-7; 22 pts.) on Wednesday night at Zions Bank Stadium.
Christian Sorto gave the Toros an early 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Emilio Ycaza received the ball which was then passed on to Jonas Fjeldberg. Fjeldberg attempted to take a shot at goal but was deflected by a Real Monarchs defender. Sorto received the deflected ball at an angle and took a right footed shot to the top right of the net.
In the 41st minute the match was equalized as Adrian Diz Pe scored an own goal after the ball bounced off of him and into the goal sending the match 1-1 into halftime.
At the 62nd minute RGV took a 2-1 lead after Fjeldberg took an assist from Sorto. Fjeldberg took a right footed shot from the left side of the box to the top right corner.
Five minutes after the goal the Toros won a free kick. Rodrigo Lopez took the free kick and converted it into a goal after he placed the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net to tally the third goal, 3-1.
During the first half RGV created several dangerous opportunities. In the 31st minute Sorto took a dangerous shot at goal but was just short of the goal. The opportunities for the Toros continued in the 38th minute when Fjeldberg took an open shot at goal but hit the crossbar.
Going into the second half Real Monarchs, Leo Torres, attempted to put the ball into the back of the RGV net but the shot was sent too high. Real Monarch created two more opportunities at goal in the 70th and 73rd minute but were short of the goal. As the game neared the end Max Mata took the last shot at goal of the game but the ball hit the top cross bar resulting in a 3-1 win in favor of RGV.
RGV led the night with 15 shots, five on target. Real Monarchs tallied seven shots, two on target.
Sorto led the Toros with five total shots, one on target and one assist. He also created one opportunity and had two tackles. Fjeldberg totaled four shots, one on target and one created opportunity. Lopez followed with three total shots and one on target.
Torres led Real Monarchs with three total shots, one on target followed by Mata with two shots, one on target.
