Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Rio Grande Valley FC (12-13-7, 43 pts) faced Eastern conference side Memphis 901 FC (19-8-5, 62 pts) on the road at AutoZone Park for the final road trip of the regular season. Ruiz' goal and defensive miscue allow Toros to come from behind and steal one point as they continue their playoff chase.
At just two minutes on the clock, Jeremy Kelly found a rebounded ball inside the box which struck the upper corner of the goal off a free kick try from Aaron Molloy. Kelly controlled and took a hard shot to the right of goal, uncontested, to make it 1-0 Memphis early.
On an individual play in the 55th minute, Laurent Kissiedu handed Memphis 901 FC the 2-0 lead at home after he struck a ball hard into goal, Deric was unable to make a play on the ball.
Ricky Ruiz stole one back at the 73rd minute as he snuck into the box to receive an assist from Juan Pablo Torres. Ruiz controlled the pass which came from a quick touch on the left wing and sent a slightly deflected shot into goal, 2-1.
Jonas Fjeldberg bounced one off Graham Smith who was punished with the own goal credit after he deflected the shot into his own net, equalizing the match at 2-2 at the 80th minute as RGV FC came back behind two second half substitutes.
Christian Pinzon had a clear chance at goal at the 87th minute but was denied by Muse who made a one-on-one save on the play to keep it deadlocked at 2-2 at AutoZone Park.
Rio Grande managed to climb back and steal a point on the road after a slow start in the match. The Toros shot five out of sixteen on target overall and limited 901 FC to just one shot on target in the second half to control offensive rhythm in the 2-2 draw.
RGV FC return to H-E-B Park to host Western Conference side Phoenix Rising FC. The action kicks off at 7:30pm CST. To see more matchday information, visit www.rgvfc.com.
