Terre Haute Rex News Release
The Terre Haute Rex enter into a three-day All-Star break in the Prospect League on a three-game winning streak.
Chris Nunn, Conor Fisk and Erlin Santos provided quality starts in the victories with Cody Wren earning the win Monday in a 3-2 victory against Dubois County.
The win put the Rex in a virtual tie with the Nashville Outlaws atop the second-half standings in the West Division. The Rex are 5-3 and the Outlaws are 4-2.
For Ronnie Mitchell, who scored the first run in a two-run first inning Monday with a leadoff single, the All-Star break is a welcome break near the middle of a 56-game schedule.
With days off few and far between, the speedy outfielder is heading down to the escape of a movie theater.
"I'm going to the movies every single day, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday," Mitchell said. "And I'll just be resting a lot, been doing a lot of running so need to rest the legs."
What summer blockbusters will he be checking out'
"I'm going to see "Bad Teacher" one night, "Horrible Bosses" the next and whatever else is playing the third night," Mitchell said.
As for the third straight win, "It's good confidence for us going into the All-Star break."
The Rex improved to 3-5 against intra-state rival Dubois County, which is based in Huntingburg.
The Bombers feature five starting pitchers with earned-run averages at 3.58 or lower, including Indiana State southpaw Sean Manea.
"They do have some good pitchers," third baseman Koby Kraemer said. "They have Manea obviously who we faced twice. He's obviously good, which is good for Indiana State but not so good for the Terre Haute Rex. They have a couple other guys that throw the ball well too. For some odd reason, we just don't match up that well with them. It's good to get a win."
Kraemer heads into the All-Star break batting .300 with team-highs of four home runs and 25 RBIs. He won't be heading to West Virginia for the All-Star Game with Joe Meggs, Nunn and Daniel Heefner.
"I haven't even looked at my stats. We had four guys. That's fine with me. I'll very happily take the four days off," Kraemer said.
Meggs takes a .330 average into the break. He also has scored 19 runs in 26 games and is tied for the league lead with 12 hit-by-pitches.
Nunn, Heefner earned their All-Star berths with consistent - and sometimes dominant - pitching performances. Conor Fisk and Santos have proven themselves as well. Has anyone made their claim as ace of the pitching staff'
"You want your ace to be the guy that throws in the playoffs," manager Brian Dorsett said after a July 3 game. "I think right now it would be Heefner or Santos and certainly Chris Nunn, they're all right there. They're all vying for that position."
