Terre Haute Rex News Release
The REX defeated the Kokomo Jackrabbits 4-3 in 10 innings on August 11th, 2018, to earn their second Prospect League Championship in franchise history!
The REX were down 3-1 in the 7th inning with 2 outs, until Lorenzo Elion (Univ. of Iowa) singled to left center field that scored Austin Weiler (Des Moines Area CC) and Nelson Muniz (Univ. of Pikeville) to tie the game at 3.
Craig Shepherd (Univ. of Evansville) lead off the 10th inning with a walk. Lorenzo Elion moved him into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt. After a Kokomo pitching change, Mason Speirs (Iowa Western CC) grounds out, moving Shepherd to 3rd base, after a diving stop by the Jackrabbits second baseman. With 2 outs in the 10th, Drew Ashley (Indiana Univ.) singles to shallow left field to give the REX a 4-3 lead. Connor Steinbaugh (Lincoln Trail CC) put the Jackrabbits down in order in the bottom of the 10th, giving the REX their second championship in franchise history!
Hunter Kloke (Brescia Univ.) threw 3.2 innings, only allowing 1 hit and had 5 strikeouts!
