Greensboro Revolution News Release

GREENSBORO - The Montgomery Maulers staved off a second half offensive surge by the Greensboro Revolution to win a 56-49 overtime thriller at the Greensboro Coliseum

In overtime, the Maulers ran 12-plays from scrimmage for the one-yard keeper by quarterback JR Richardson for the final touchdown of the game.

In the fourth quarter, trailing 41-28, the Revolution turned on the offensive heat with a four-yard run by Rodney Milbourne to cap an 11-play, 45 yard drive with a five-yard scramble over the goal line to shave the Mauler lead to just six points. Willie Harris gave Greensboro its first lead of the game on a 3-yard rush, forging the Revolution to a 42-41 lead after a blocked field goal attempt gave the Greensboro the ball inside the five-yard line. Charlie Robbins answered with a 10-yard scamper for a score with the Maulers, only to have Harris respond with yet another touchdown, knotting the game at 49-49 heading into the overtime session.

The Revolution (4-8) began its comeback with two touchdowns in the third quarter, the first on a 42-yard catch by Antoine Calloway, when at the 7:29 mark of the game the Maulers lead was cut to two touchdowns. After a touchdown by Montgomery's Charlie Robbins, which moved the lead to 41-21, Demeco Archangel returned the kickoff 57-yards for his third touchdown of the game.

A pair of Archangel touchdown catches highlighted the first half for the Revolution, who trailed 35-14 at halftime. Montgomery scored back-to-back touchdowns to open the game, the first coming on a 40-yard strike by JR Richardson Jr. to Shaun Holmes. Following a fumble on the kickoff return, Montgomery penetrated the Greensboro defense for a one-yard rumble by Richardson for the early 14-0 lead. The Maulers Octavius Day hauled in a 45-yard pass from Richardson for the 20-0 first quarter advantage.

Archangel capped a four play, 42-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass as he tip-toed the endzone for the first Greensboro score. Following two more touchdowns by the Maulers, a second reception by Day and a one-yard scramble by Rollins, the Revolution would trail 35-7. With 1:34 remaining in the half, Archangel pulled down an acrobatic 23-yard pass by Milbourne. Milbourne completed 6-of-9 passes for 107 yards in a reserve role after starting quarterback Fernie Garza left due to an injury.
