Richmond Revolution News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, MI: The Richmond Revolution ended their season long three game road trip in dramatic fashion tonight, sweeping the season series with the West Michigan Thunderhawks with a convincing 61-37 win in Grand Rapids, MI. QB Bryan Randall (Virginia Tech) was once again the star, throwing for 4 touchdowns, including his 40th of the season, and rushing for 4 touchdowns. For the second straight game, and third overall, Randall didn't throw an interception as the Revolution improved to 9-1 in their inaugural season.
The Revolution came from behind to clinch the win tonight, trailing 10-0 after the first quarter, the Revolution out-scored the top ranked Thunderhawks offense by 34 points in the remaining three quarters. The Revolution piled up 263 return yards from Kick Returns, two interceptions and a fumble recovery, ran for over 100 yards for the second time in three weeks and out-gained a potent Thunderhawks offense. The defense shined throughout the game, forcing three turnovers and holding West Michigan to only 16 rushing yards. West Michigan QB Brad Iciek (Grand Valley State), was kept largely in check, only throwing 1 touchdown, but he rushed for three short touchdowns to keep the Thunderhawks in the game.
The Special Teams for the Revolution struggled at first, clearly missing long snapper Noland Burchette (Virginia Tech) as he was at home for the birth of his new baby. Three extra point attempts were no good tonight, two because of low snaps. Great kick returns by WR/DB Larry Williams (WVU) and DB Demarcus James consistently gave the Revolution short fields to work with, and timely running by RB Eugene Holloman (JMU) for a team high 47 yards kept the clock moving.
Revolution WR Antwun Williams (Virginia State) caught his team leading 14th touchdown of the season, while WR Aaron Alexander (Michigan State) added his 10th and 11th touchdowns. DE Jason Holman (WSSU), last week's Defensive Player of the Week recorded his 9th sack of the season, good for second in the league. Randall is the second quarterback in the IFL to break 40 passing touchdowns this season, joining reigning IFL MVP QB Chris Dixon of the Billings Outlaws (41).
"We're thrilled SportsQuest's first professional team has clinched a playoff spot in their inaugural season" said Revolution General Manager Phil Evans, "We look forward to bringing postseason football back to Richmond."
The win marks the sixth in a row for the streaking Revolution, who clinched a berth in the 2010 Indoor Football League Playoffs that start June 26th. With the loss by the Sioux Falls Storm tonight against the Omaha Beef, the Revolution take over the best record in the United Conference and are the front-runners for the number one seed in the playoffs. The Revolution return home after their season long 3 game road trip next week to face the Rochester Raiders on May 22nd.
