Revolution And Bees Split Sunday Doubleheader

(New Britain, CT) - The York Revolution (10-9) split a doubleheader with the New Britain Bees (6-15) at New Britain Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with New Britain winning the opener in walk-off fashion in eight innings 5-2, while York was victorious in the nightcap 9-0 in seven innings of play.
In game one, New Britain starting pitcher Kyle Simon tallied a no-decision, allowing two runs on six hits (one home run) in seven innings pitched, striking out six. York starting pitcher Jay Gause also did not factor in the game's final outcome after surrendering two runs (one earned run) on four hits across four and two-thirds innings on the mound, striking out five.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom half of the third inning, Deibinson Romero gave the Bees a 2-1 lead when he drove home Vinny Siena and Darrel Ceciliani with a two-run single. Jared Mitchell got the visitors even at two with a solo home run to right off Simon in the top of the fifth inning. The game remained deadlocked all the way to the bottom half of the eighth inning, but that changed with one swing of the bat as Jamar Walton blasted a two-out, walk-off three-run home run to right field off losing pitcher Luke Westphal (0-1), making a winner out of New Britain reliever Tyler Higgins (1-0). Walton led the way for the Bees with a pair of hits.
In game two, New Britain starting pitcher Sam Gervacio registered a no-decision in the ballgame despite three scoreless innings on just one hit allowed, striking out three. York starting pitcher Ross Detwiler (2-1) picked up the victory after not allowing a run in five innings on the mound while giving up two hits, walking two and striking out four along with hitting a batter.
York took a 2-0 lead versus losing pitcher Mike Hepple (0-1) in the top half of the fourth inning on a two-out, two-run single courtesy of Jose Cuevas. Leading 3-0, the Revolution broke the game wide open in the top of the seventh as they sent 11 batters to the plate scoring six runs in taking a 9-0 advantage and never looked back as they gained a spilt of the twin-bill and a series win, keeping New Britain off of the scoreboard for the fourth time this season. New Britain returns to the Hardware City on Friday, May 25th when they welcome in the Sugar Land Skeeters to New Britain Stadium for a three-game Memorial Day weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. It will be Bark In the Park Night, as all dogs are welcome into New Britain Stadium but must be wearing a leash or harness at all times.
