Sacramento Republic FC News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento Republic FC selected Street Soccer USA Sacramento as the sixth recipient of a grant from the Glory Glory Sacramento Fund. Street Soccer USA will receive a $20,000 grant. Street Soccer USA Sacramento will be recognized at halftime of Republic FC's match against the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros on Saturday, June 18.
"Street Soccer USA and the Sacramento Lady Salamanders, like Republic FC, hope to use the beautiful game as a way to promote social change and make Sacramento a better place to live, work and play," said Republic FC Executive Vice President and Co-Founder Joe Wagoner. "Street Soccer is an integral part of the Sacramento community. We have seen first hand their impact at the clinics and practices that they hold and we are proud to support them as they look to grow their organization and their impact in our region."
Street Soccer USA works to combat homelessness and build life-changing community based sports programs for the least served communities in Sacramento through the beautiful game. Through the Sacramento Lady Salamanders women's chapter, Street Soccer USA has held hundreds of street soccer practices in the Sacramento area, aiming to make a positive impact on the community of at-risk women and their children.
The non-profit works alongside other local organization such as Loaves and Fishes, Cottage Housing, Wellspring Women's Center, St. Hope and local addiction rehabilitation centers to help participants get back on track towards a stable life for themselves and their families, helping them create goals and making sure they complete them.
"Street Soccer helps to build self-esteem, self-worth and confidence that will be crucial through our participants' lives," said Street Soccer USA Sacramento Chapter Executive Director Lisa Wrightsman. "We have core values that give confidence and help them create long term goals. It enables them to reconnect with their families and form new foundations for healthy relationships."
The Glory Glory Sacramento Fund was created to celebrate and elevate nonprofits that share the same indomitable spirit as our region and provides individual grants up to $20,000. Sacramento-region nonprofits that support education, health/wellness or youth leadership may apply.
To-date, the Glory Glory Sacramento Fund has distributed $94,000 in grants to six local non-profits. Previous recipients include Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps, Cristo Rey High School, Community Outreach Academy, 916 Ink and Waking the Village. The remaining grant recipients will be announced in the coming weeks.
Republic FC fans and the public are encouraged to help match the club's donation by making their own tax-deductible donation to Street Soccer USA Sacramento by visiting SacRepublicFC.com.
