May 3, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Reno 1868 FC News Release
Reno, NV - On Saturday, Reno 1868 FC (3-2-3) will host Tulsa Roughnecks FC (4-3-2) at Greater Nevada Field at 6:45 p.m. PT.
Reno is coming off of a 1-0 loss at El Paso Locomotive last week. The Roughnecks are coming into the weekend with a 1-1 draw against OKC Energy FC under their belt.
"Tulsa is a good team this year. Last year they struggled a bit, but this year they're starting off hot," forward Brain Brown said. "They're on a good run right now and they're going to come here and give us a good game. We're ready for it, ready to bounce back from last game."
Tulsa currently sits at 2nd place in the USL Championship Western Conference standings, with Reno a few spots back in 5th. This will be the first of two meetings between the clubs this season and their fifth meeting all-time. The Roughnecks trail in the series 0-3-1 looking for their first win against Reno in club history.
Reno 1868 FC Head Coach Ian Russell is aware this is not the same team they have seen in the last couple years.
"They're an organized team and they're not afraid to play direct when they have to," Russell said. "They're a much better team than they had last year."
Defender Luca Lobo leads the Roughnecks with 7 goals in 8 appearances, adding an assist in a 4-0 victory over Tacoma Defiance. Midfielder Rodrigo Da Costa leads the team in assists with 6 in 9 appearances, adding 3 goals of his own to tie for second on the team. Forward Janú Silva and midfielder Cristhian Altamirano have also tallied 3 goals each to tie Da Costa for second in scoring on the team.
Tulsa will attempt to slow down forwards Brian Brown and Cory Hertzog who lead Reno in goals scored and assists. Brown has scored 5 goals in 7 appearances, and Hertzog 3 assists in 8 appearances.
Saturday's match will also be a part of the Cinco de Mayo Soccer festival taking place at Greater Nevada Field. Prior to the Reno 1868 FC match, the Super Clásico Leyendas match will kick off at 4 p.m. In between the two matches there will be a live performance from a mariachi band, dancers, drink specials, activities for kids, and much more.
The Reno 1868 FC v. Tulsa Roughnecks FC match can streamed on ESPN+ and will also be aired on Nevada Sports Network. For tickets, visit Reno1868FC.com or the Greater Nevada Field ticket office.
