Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA – Three key members of the Ottawa Renegades Football Club responded to a report in an Ottawa newspaper on Thursday, which inferred that team general manager Eric Tillman has been relieved of his duties.

"Eric Tillman is an integral part of our organization and is still our General Manager," said Renegades president Brad Watters. "Both he and (head coach) Joe Paopao are committed to making this club successful and ensuring a winning product is on the field week in and week out."

Paopao had the title of "Director of Football Operations" added to his resume in the spring of 2004, and both continue to work hand-in-hand in the handling of all day-to-day duties.

"Eric is our GM, he has always been our GM and it's been the same since we've been here," said Paopao. "My job is to get this team ready to play week in and week out."

Tillman, who has been part of the Renegades since the team's birth in 2001, agreed.

"My role here has been the same since we got here. Joe and I work collectively and our mandate has not changed at all," said Tillman on Thursday. "Every decision we make, we make together. We understand the importance of this team to the league and the community in the Capital region and we're committed to building a winning product."

The Renegades, now 5-8, are only a point away from a playoff spot. Should the club qualify for the post-season this year, it would be the first time in franchise history – something the coaching staff and remainder of the front office continues to have as its goal.

"Our first step comes this Sunday, in Regina, against a very good Saskatchewan Roughriders team," said Paopao. "Our focus is to have our team ready for kick-off at Taylor Field."
