Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA â Ottawa Renegades fans will get an opportunity to meet two of their local football stars and register for a charity run to raise money for breast cancer, when offensive lineman Mike Sutherland and receiver David Azzi sit down for an autograph session on Friday, September 24, 2004 at 1 p.m.
The autograph session, at the CIBC branch on 1800 Bank Street, is a lead-up to the October 3, CIBC Run For A Cure event, which serves as a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research in Canada. Sutherland and Azzi will sign autographs and pose for pictures at the local branch for an hour and are fully backing this worthwhile cause. Both players are urging everyone to take part in the run, which is the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation's largest single national fundraising event to support a number of breast cancer research projects and services initiated by this foundation.
"This is important to me because my mother (Micheline) is a breast cancer survivor and I want to support this cause," said Sutherland. "If I can bring visibility to raising money through an affiliation with a professional sports team like the Renegades, then that is just great!"
In the Ottawa-Carleton area alone last year, the CIBC Run For A Cure was able to raise to raise over $125,000 towards the fight against breast cancer. People will have an opportunity to register for the run next Friday, and can also sign-up in advance by visiting either http://www.cbcf.org or any CIBC branch or Running Room store. On the day of the run, participants are asked to bring a completed registration form (available at any CIBC branch or Running Room location) to the run site.
Sutherland and Azzi will make time for the charitable cause only a day before flying to Regina in preparation for Ottawa's road game in Saskatchewan on Sunday, September 26.
