Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Renegades Football Club announced the signings of two new defensive threats Thursday. The team inked defensive back Quincy Coleman and linebacker Ray Holdcraft to deals. Both imports were locked up for one-year, plus an option.

Coleman, 29, was picked up off waivers from the Edmonton Eskimos, where he spent the past three years. Coleman, who can also play linebacker, won one Grey Cup (2003) and played in another championship (2002). Appearing in 13 games last season, the speedy product of Jackson State recorded 28 defensive tackles, three interceptions and seven pass knockdowns.

"We like his experience, and he is a quality young man who has played in Grey Cup games and were happy he was available," said Joe Paopao, head coach and general manager of the Renegades. "He's played for (defensive coordinator) Greg Marshall and he highly recommended him. This will make competition that much stronger in training camp."

Holdcraft, 26, comes to Ottawa from University of Utah. The 5-foot-11, 242-pounder was previously a first-team 2001 junior college All-American by the California Community College Football Coaches Association while at Ricks Junior College in 2000 and Palomar J.C. in 2001. The business major, who is married and father of one child, was also named all-conference and all-state linebacker at the junior college level.

In his last year at Utah, Holdcraft recorded 31 tackles in seven games.

"We've seen Ray play personally and he's what you look for in a middle linebacker," said Paopao. "He's a 4.65 (40-second-dash) kid that is a thumper. He brings the hammer, and can hit and really fly."
