Reign FC Acquires Forward Kristie Mewis from FC Kansas City

SEATTLE - Nov. 7, 2013 - Seattle Reign FC has acquired forward Kristie Mewis from FC Kansas City in exchange for forward Amy Rodriguez. Rodriguez was allocated to Reign FC in Jan. 2013 but missed the entire 2013 National Women's Soccer League season due to pregnancy.

"Kristie is a young, bright and talented player who we feel can benefit our long-term plan," said Reign FC coach and general manager Laura Harvey. "She has proven that she can be a high-level player in this environment and we feel we have the structure to help push Kristie to the next level."

Mewis was taken as the No. 3 overall selection in the 2013 NWSL College Draft by FC Kansas City. The 22-year-old scored one goal in 20 appearances, all starts, during her rookie campaign. She also was designated a U.S. allocated player during the 2013 season.

Mewis captained the first-ever U.S. Under-17 Women's National Team squad in 2008 to a second-place finish in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. The midfielder made her U.S. Women's National Team debut on Feb. 9, 2013 against Scotland. She scored her first UWSNT goal on June 15 th, 2013 when she opened up the scoring against Korea Republic in the third minute. The goal came in front of her hometown fans at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

Mewis is a Hanson, Mass. native and graduate of Boston College. She netted 16 goals her senior season and became the all-time leading scorer in Boston College history with 116 points. After Mewis' stellar senior campaign, she was recognized as a Hermann Trophy semifinalist and an NSCAA First Team All-American.

Mewis joins goalkeeper Hope Solo and forward Megan Rapinoe as one of Reign FC's U.S. allocated players.
