Reid Reinholdt Signs 1-Year Extension
Oakville, ON - Toronto Rock General Manager Jamie Dawick announced today that forward Reid Reinholdt has agreed to a 1-year contract extension. The signing is pending league approval.
Reinholdt, dubbed 'Mr. Clutch' by many, has been a consistent contributor to the Rock's offence since being signed as a free agent prior to the 2017 season. He's the offensive lefty that brings that 'je ne sais quoi' to the mix that is the Rock forward group.
"Reid brings a different element," explained Dawick. "I'm a believer in structuring a productive offence with six or seven good pieces working together. They can't all be the same player. I'm happy he'll be back with us."
After missing the 2018-19 season recovering from a torn ACL, Reinholdt then missed the beginning of the 2019-20 season due to work commitments as he began his career away from lacrosse as an articling student at a law firm in B.C. and now flies in for games.
Reinholdt will write the bar exam in early August and if he is successful and passes the exam, he will be sworn into the law society of B.C. in September.
The 28-year old native of Pitt Meadows, BC has scored 46 goals in 37 games during his 3-year NLL career, with many of them coming at important times in games. He has added 52 assists to total 98 career points in those 37 games.
"I'm pumped because this is where I always wanted to play and at one point I didn't know if it was possible, but we have made it work," said Reinholdt. "This group still has a lot left to prove. We certainly have some unfinished business."
The gritty forward was thrust into action on Dec. 28 at Rochester and contribute at least one point in all seven games he dressed for in 19-20. The highlight of his season was certainly his three-goal game in Saskatoon against the Rush. One of those three goals was his goal-of-the-year candidate dunk from behind the net that swung the momentum in Rock's favour, en route to a comeback win on the road.
"I was pretty nervous when I got started last season, having missed training camp and just jumping into a game. I was just hoping to stay healthy. It wasn't until the game in Saskatchewan that I finally felt 100 percent again. It wasn't long after that when the season was suspended. I'm running without a brace and going to the box a bit and putting in a bit of work and I feel good," said Reinholdt.
It's a safe assumption that a fully healthy and settled Reid Reinholdt might be ready for a breakout season in 2020-21.

The next major date on the NLL's summer calendar is the opening of the free agent signing period on Aug. 1.
