
Reebok-CCM Hires ECHL's Thornborough

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced that Senior Vice President of
Marketing/Business Development Glen Thornborough has been hired by
Reebok-CCM as Vice President of Sports Marketing.
Thornborough worked eight seasons with the league overseeing and managing
ECHL Properties and all marketing and fundraising initiatives. Sponsorship
and licensing revenue increased more than 200 percent and he was the key
figure in the Rbk Hockey exclusivity program as well as introducing the
first-ever league-wide game-worn jersey program with The MeiGray Group. He
acquired national television and radio distribution for the ECHL All-Star
Game as well as negotiating league-wide partnerships with RBC Financial
Group, AMI Graphics, Sportstape, PaySource USA and NHL Network.
In his new role with Reebok-CCM, Thornborough will be responsible for all
activities related to league partnerships and player endorsements while
also gathering input from players for product development.
Reebok-CCM, a subsidiary of the adidas Group, is headquartered in Montreal,
Quebec. With operations in Canada, the United States and Europe, the
company is the world's largest designer, manufacturer and marketer of
hockey equipment and related apparel under two of the most-recognized
hockey-brand names: Rbk Hockey and CCM Hockey. Reebok-CCM Hockey equips
more professional hockey players than any other company, including
superstars like Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin. In addition to the
ECHL, Reebok-CCM is the official outfitter of the National Hockey League,
the American Hockey League, the Canadian Hockey League and several NCAA and
national teams.
ECHL
ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in four states and has grown to be a
coast-to-coast league with 23 teams playing 828 games in 16 states and
British Columbia in 2008-09.
The league officially changed its name to ECHL on May
19, 2003.
The ECHL has affiliations with 26 of the 30 teams in the NHL, marking the
12th consecutive season that the league has had affiliations with at least
20 teams in the NHL.
There have been 355
former ECHL players who have gone on to play in the NHL after playing in
the ECHL, including a record 47 in 2005-06 and 26 in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
The ECHL is represented for the eighth consecutive year on the National
Hockey League championship team in 2008 by Aaron
Downey of the Detroit Red Wings.
