RedHawks Ace to Deal at 'The Swamp'

May 19, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Some of the finest players to grace "The Swamp" over the past two seasons have come from Southeast Missouri State University. That shouldn't change this season, as the 'Dogs have added a fourth RedHawk to their roster in left-handed pitcher Joey Lucchesi.

Lucchesi joins infielders Branden Boggetto and Garrett Gandolfo, and right-handed pitcher Alex Siddle in making the trip from Cape Girardeau, Mo. to the All-American City.

The southpaw from Newark, Calif. has anchored the RedHawks staff this spring, leading the team in wins (7) and ERA (2.87) while striking out 87 batters in 81.2 innings pitched.

Three times this season Lucchesi struck out double-digits, including back-to-back 13 strikeout performances on April 24th and May 1st. Opponents have hit just .194 against him.

The Southeast Missouri RedHawks are 33-21 overall and 22-8 in Ohio Valley Conference play this season. The RedHawks clinched their second consecutive OVC regular season title. RedHawk players Derek Gibson and Jason Blum have been Coastal Plain League All-Stars for the SwampDogs in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

The Fayetteville SwampDogs are in their 15th season playing in the Coastal Plain League. The SwampDogs are one of the most successful franchises in the league's history, making the Petitt Cup Playoffs eight times in the past 10 seasons, reaching the championship round three times. The SwampDogs boast 84 alumni taken in the draft and have produced six players who have gone on to play in Major League Baseball. The SwampDogs open their season on Tuesday, May 26th with a 7:05 pm tilt with the Morehead City Marlins at J.P. Riddle Stadium. To reserve your seats for the 2015 Summer of Fun or for more information, call the SwampDogs offices at 910-426-5900.
