Redfish Sign Deal With Clear Channel Radio To Broadcast Games

May 9, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Charlotte County Redfish News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- When you think of baseball, you think of the smell of the grass, the crack of the bat, the smells of the park and the great homerun calls. The Redfish have finalized a deal that will allow everyone in Charlotte County and surrounding areas with a radio to tune in to every Redfish game this season.

The Charlotte County Redfish and Clear Channel Radio Punta Gorda have signed a radio deal that will broadcast all 90 games of the 2007 Inaugural Season of Redfish Baseball on WKII 1070 AM. Every broadcast will begin with a pre-game show starting 15 minutes before the first pitch. The first pitch will be thrown out at 7:05 PM every night except on Sundays, when game time is set for 6:05 PM.

WKII 1070 AM, the new home for Redfish baseball is a station that normally features great nostalgia music. You won't find a more loyal and dedicated audience than those 50+ tuned in to "The Greatest Music Ever Recorded" on WKII. With a powerful five thousand watt signal covering Lee, Charlotte, and Sarasota Counties, WKII's nostalgia format means business in Southwest Florida.

"Clear Channel Punta Gorda strives to provide our loyal listeners quality content for a diverse audience," commented Melissa Chambers, Senior Radio & Internet Marketing Consultant for Clear Channel Radio. "The Redfish are committed to giving fans affordable and easily accessible entertainment on a nightly basis for families in Charlotte County, and we are very excited to be the home of the Redfish on the airwaves."

The Redfish have also named their inaugural "Voice of the Redfish". David Greenwald, Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations, will be behind the microphone calling every Redfish game on WKII 1070 AM. David joins the Redfish after working in his first year as the broadcaster for the Strong Island Sound of the American Basketball Association. David will provide all the great baseball action and insight to the Redfish listeners and will be joined throughout the season by several special guests.

"This is a great opportunity to be a part of something new and in an area that is craving for baseball," stated Greenwald. "From the action on the field to the promotions between innings and everything else going on at the ballpark, this season will have a lot of firsts and that makes for great baseball and great radio."

Clear Channel Radio Punta Gorda operates a 5-station group featuring stations like KIX Country 92.9 and NewsTalk 1580. Overall, Clear Channel Radio and its parent company, based in San Antonio, Texas, operate over 1,200 radio stations in the United States. Clear Channel is the largest radio group owner in the United States, by both number of stations and revenue.

This deal supplants the South Coast League's deal with All-In Internet Broadcasting. Serving as the "Official Online Radio Provider", All-In will stream every Redfish game this season in addition to the SCL Championship Series and All-Star Game. The Redfish are under 10 days from their Opening Day May 18th with the South Georgia Peanuts. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05pm with plenty of exciting Opening Day Ceremonies! The "Name the Mascot" Contest is still running on our website so don't miss out on this great opportunity to be a part of Redfish history. For more, information, check out www.redfishbaseball.com.
