Spring Training in Full Swing Across SCL

May 9, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL) News Release

CONYERS, GA - With just over a week before opening night of the inaugural season of the South Coast League, players, managers, team staffs, and league officials are hard at work putting the finishing touches on their rosters, stadiums, and opening night festivities.

Over a year and a half of careful planning have come down to the final stretch and players are now working out at team facilities in hopes of landing a job on the 23 man rosters. Coaching staffs have meticulously mapped out their limited evaluation time with their players in order to make appropriate and knowledgeable decisions for the upcoming seasons.

When not on the field, players are spending their time in the communities at autograph signings, team dinners, and other team events angled toward building team chemistry off the field as well as on it. The mixture of personal backgrounds, race, language barriers, and religion can often be a major factor in how a team jells during a long campaign.

With so many different coaching styles and strategies, it becomes increasingly important for managers to get their players on the same page with their own philosophy prior to opening night. In the end, the right group of young men will arise from each camp and form the inaugural rosters of the South Coast League franchises.

"Once the players and managers arrive in town, it really begins to feel like baseball season," said SCL Chief Operating Officer Chris Allen. "Everyone's hard work and dedication towards the realization of this project is finally taking shape, and it's an exciting time to be involved with the South Coast League."

Further details on individual team spring training sessions can be found online on all six SCL team pages. The South Coast League is a six-team based independent professional baseball league located in the Southeastern U.S., with first pitch slated for May 17th at 7:05 P.M in Macon, GA.
