May 28, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Charlotte County Redfish News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- The Charlotte County Redfish have made some moves that have changed the look of their roster. Five players were released to open rosters spots that were quickly filled by Manager Jackie Hernandez.

The Redfish (1-8), who are off to a tough start early in their inaugural season, have made some changes to their roster. They acquired three new pitchers and an outfielder, players who Hernandez believes can bring some experience to the roster as well as produce on the field.

Justin Wichert, a right-handed pitcher, was added to the Redfish roster during their road trip in Albany, GA. Wichert played for the Florence Freedom and also was in spring training with the South Coast League's Macon Music. Since joining the Redfish, Wichert has pitched three and one-third innings, allowed one hit, one run, walked one and struck out one.

Another player added during the road trip was outfielder Jose Garcia. In two games with the Redfish, Garcia has a .333 average with three hits in nine at-bats. He has one run, one RBI and three strikeouts. The Redfish also added two pitchers to their roster: RHP Javier Fiallo and LHP Brandon Camardese. Fiallo joins the Redfish after playing for the Sioux City Xplorers of the American Association. He has a 7.56 ERA in four games. He pitched 8.1 innings allowing 8 hits, 7 runs, all earned, one homerun, a walk and 5 strikeouts. Fiallo played collegiate ball at Savannah State University.

Camardese played at the University of Miami from 2002 to 2005. He went on to play in the Pioneer League, Gulf Coast League, Midwest League and most recently played for the Sarasota Reds and was in spring training with the Cincinnati Reds. He had a 5.71 ERA spanning his college and minor league career to date. In 85+ innings, he allowed 50 runs on 108 hits and he struck out 76 batters.

To make room for these roster additions, the Redfish released LHP Andrew Lane, utility player Osvaldo Diaz, catcher Jose Manuel Rey, outfielder Juan Guzman and RHP Jake Baker. Hernandez commented that he wants players who will give their best effort night in and night out.

"If there are players going through slumps or are hurt, but are giving it their all, I'll understand that," said Hernandez. "[The Redfish] want players who want to play and will go after it every night."

With these new player additions, the Redfish are set to take on the Bradenton Juice in the second installment of the "Sunshine Series" presented by Fairchild Roofing. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. All Redfish games can be heard on 1070 AM WKII and online at www.redfishbaseball.com. For more information, check out www.redfishbaseball.com. Charlotte County Redfish Baseball - Reel in the Fun!
