Aiken Foxhounds News Release
AIKEN, S.C. - Bradley Key and Garth McKinney each hit seventh-inning home runs as the Aiken Foxhounds (7-3) rallied past the visiting Macon Music (5-4) 11-10 for their fifth-straight victory. The Hounds were able to stay perfect at home despite the heroics of Macon's Casey Garrison, who drilled two grand slams and finished with eight RBI in the game.
The Hounds looked to be on their way to another easy victory in the first inning, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning and another in the second to grab an early 5-0 lead. All four of the hosts runs in the bottom of the first were unearned, an error kept the inning alive against Macon starter David Seccombe. McKinney, Tim Sweeney, and Jeff Timmons all drove in a run in the frame.
The Music stormed back in the third off Aiken starter Reid Price. Garrison's first grand slam pulled the visitors to within one, and two Foxhounds errors led to two more runs to give Macon their first lead, 6-5.
Back-to-back home runs from Kelly Hunt and McKinney reclaimed the lead for the Hounds in the bottom of the fifth, who added another run in the inning on an RBI single from Price.
Once again, the Hounds lead would not last, and once again it was Garrison doing the damage in the top of the sixth inning. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases and forced Aiken manager Chris Bando to pull Price in favor of reliever Steve Dunham. Garrison greeted the right-handed reliever's first pitch with his second bases-clearing blast to put Macon in front 10-8.
For the second time, the Music's lead was short-lived, as Bradley Key followed a Joe Cuttone single with his first home run of the season to knot the game at 10-10. After a pitching change brought in Rudy Quinonez (0-1), McKinney drilled the game-winner over the scoreboard in left field.
Dunham (1-0) settled down to earn the win, allowing just one more hit and no runs in 2.2 innings after giving up the second grand slam to Garrison. A.J. Montano pitched a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.
McKinney finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three driven in to lead the Foxhounds. Key went 1-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI, and Hunt finished 1-for-4 with two RBI.
For the Music, Carlos Arroyo went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Scott Robinson went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in support of Garrison's huge night.
The Foxhounds and the Music will play game two of their three-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 PM at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
