August 25, 2023 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
Chattanooga Red Wolves SC News Release

Wrapping up a busy six-match month, the Red Wolves will close out the month of August at home against South Georgia Tormenta FC on Saturday, August 26th. Tormenta picked up wins in the first two meetings between the clubs with a 2-0 win at CHI Memorial Stadium on May 5th and one in Statesboro on Saturday, July 15th by a score of 4-2, featuring a brace from Chevone Marsh. This match will close out the 2023 series between the clubs.

Chattanooga played most recently on the road against Greenville Triumph SC on Wednesday, August 23rd in a hard fought 2-1 loss. The Red Wolves came out swinging, quickly picking up two yellow cards within the first 15 minutes. Greenville managed to get on the board first with a 26th minute goal to open the scoring. Chattanooga worked to put together chances of their own led by Chevone Marsh and Ropapa Mensah. Shortly into first half stoppage time, the Triumph collected their second goal of the match with a crossbar rebound from Jacob Labovitz. Seconds before the whistle signaling halftime, Marsh tallied his tenth of the year to cut the Greenville lead in half.

The second half featured a similar level of physicality as the Red Wolves looked to even the score. Alex Tejera and Moe Espinoza entered the match, playing their first minutes after weeks of unavailability due to injury and Ryley Kraft, also coming on as a sub, created solid chances for Chattanooga, but was held off resulting in the 2-1 final.

South Georgia also comes into the match coming off of a Wednesday night contest against Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, the third straight opponent to face Chattanooga after playing Colorado. Tormenta carried a 2-1 lead over the Hailstorm through 90 minutes, with a two-goal performance from Kezaiah Sterling who scored in the 21st and 43rd minutes, the latter on a penalty kick. Colorado's Trevor Amann scored in the 32nd minute to get his squad on the board before halftime. Mark Hernández provided the Hailstorm's game tying goal in second half stoppage time to force a draw and split points in Statesboro.

This week's match will be the first of two straight home matches for the Red Wolves and will feature a pre-game happy hour with drink specials on all beer and special drink pricing on frozen margaritas, palomas, and Cardiac Punch. The Red Wolves take on Forward Madison the following week at CHI Memorial Stadium for $2 Beer Night.

UALEFI APPROACHES CLUB RECORD 100TH APPEARANCE

After coming on a substitution in the 83rd minute in Wednesday night's match, Red Wolves midfielder Ualefi Dos Reis is only one match away from his 100th appearance with the club.

Ualefi first signed with Chattanooga in December 2018 and re-signed with the organization in 2020. He is the longest-tenured Red Wolves player in club history and has captained the team in nearly every match this season and has provided a strong veteran presence during his career with the team.

MARSH CLOSES IN ON RED WOLVES SINGLE SEASON SCORING RECORD, GOLDEN BOOT RACE

Collecting his tenth goal of the season with eight matches remaining in the 2023 season, Chevone Marsh continues to lead the Red Wolves in scoring and is only three tallies away from matching Juan Galindrez's 13 goal campaign in 2022. He has scored in his last three appearances for the Red Wolves.

Marsh also maintains a grasp on fourth place in the USL League One Golden Boot race, currently tied with Greenville's Leo Castro and Richmond's Emiliano Terzaghi. Chattanooga's Ropapa Mensah is the next highest goal scorer for the team with six so far this season.

RESILIENT RED WOLVES LOOK TO EXTEND SCORING STREAK AGAINST TORMENTA

In the face of tough losses on the road and at home this season, the Red Wolves continue to show grit against their opponents this season. They are tied with North Carolina FC for most points recovered from losing positions (16) and lead the league in goals scored in the last 15 minutes of the second half (11).

Marsh's goal in Wednesday's game has extended the Red Wolves scoring streak to three matches, the second longest this season after a five-match scoring streak from July 9th to August 6th.
