Rochester Red Wings News Release
- THE ROCHESTER RED WINGS used the first career Triple-A complete game from Logan Darnell and a five-run outburst in the third inning to roll past the Norfolk Tides (Orioles), 8-1, Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field to even the series at a game apiece. The complete game was the second, 9-inning complete game turned in by a Wings pitcher this season (Y. Pino, 5/3 vs. LOU) and the Wings' league-leading 6th CG of the season. Rochester has now won 13 of their last 18 games against the Tides.
- LOGAN DARNELL (4-4, 3.16 ERA) tossed a complete game allowing one run (Michael Almanzar 5th inning home run), scattering nine hits and one walk while striking out three. Darnell's only other complete game came June 20, 2013 with New Britain (AA) at Erie, which was his last start before his promotion to Rochester. The Wings turned a season-high four double plays behind Darnell - the most DP's since Aug 2, 2013 at Lehigh Valley. The Tennessee native moves to 3-1 at home and lowered his Frontier Field earned run average to 2.29 (10 ER/39.1 IP) this season. Darnell had yet to complete 7.0 innings this season prior to Sunday's gem.
- DANIEL ORTIZ (1-for-3; HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB) blasted a home run into the right field bullpen in the third inning to give Rochester the 2-0 lead. It was his fourth in 25 games with the Red Wings and first since his game-winning grand slam in the 8th inning in June 19 vs. PAW. Combined with Double-A, Ortiz now has eight homers on the year. Ortiz also took Tides starter Jake Pettit deep in Double-A earlier this season.
- JAMES BERESFORD (3-for-4; 2 R) recorded his fourth, three-hit game of the season. Beresford came into the game batting .163 (8-for-49) over his last 13 games since his season-long 12-game hit streak (6/3-6/15).
- CHRIS COLABELLO (1-for-3; 2B, RBI, IBB) delivered a key two-out double in the Wings' five-run 3rd inning. Colabello is now hitting .306 (30-98) over his last 27 games with 8 2B, 3 HR, and 19 RBI, after going 2-for-24 (.083) over his first 7 games with the Wings.
- ERIC FARRIS (2-for-5; RBI) has now recorded a hit in five straight games, batting 8-for-23 (.348). Farris also now has recorded a team-leading 28 multi-hit games (25 two-hit, 3 three-hit).
- GIVING UP THE LONG BALL: Wings starters have now allowed a home run in 8 of their last 10 games and a total of 23 in 29 June games. The rotation had allowed just 13 over the first two months of the season (54 games).
