Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Buffalo, N.Y. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) swept the host Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) in a Saturday doubleheader, 6-2 and 4-0. The RailRiders (40-26) reached the 40-win mark in fewer games and earlier on the calendar than their 2016 Triple-A National Champion predecessors. Last year's unit claimed its 40th victory in its 70th game and on June 18, 2017.
Starter Chance Adams (4-2) tossed five-plus innings of one-run ball to get the victory in the opener. Tyler Wade tripled and went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Dustin Fowler logged three hits, one RBI and scored twice. Joe Mantiply fired the final two innings to record his first save as a RailRider.
In the nightcap, 22-year-old right-hander Adonis Rosa got the start after he was called up from Low-A Charleston. Rosa (1-0) tossed six innings of six-hit ball, walking none and whiffing four to record the win in his first career outing above Low-A. Tyler Webb worked around a pair of baserunners in the seventh to polish of the team's IL-best-tying eighth shutout victory. Wade again posted a pair of hits, stretching the IL's best active hitting streak to 17 games, one off the league's best runs of the season. Both SWB's Rob Refsnyder (April 19-May 18) and Durham's Curt Casali (April 13-May 11) enjoyed 18-gamers earlier this season.
The series concludes at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday. SWB southpaw Caleb Smith (4-0, 2.71) will face a to-be-announced Buffalo hurler. The RailRiders return home on Monday, June 19 with a 7:05 p.m. contest against the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals). The Dollar Dog Monday sports $1 lawn tickets, $1 hot dogs and fans can bring their pup to the ballpark for just $1.
