Red Bulls Defender Carlos Mendes Undergoes Season-Ending Hip Surgery

RED BULLS DEFENDER CARLOS MENDES UNDERGOES SEASON-ENDING HIP SURGERY
SECAUCUS, NJ (July 16, 2009) - Red Bull New York announced today that defender Carlos Mendes underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn hip labrum. The surgery was performed by Dr. Bryan T. Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Mendes, who has carried the injury since Aug. 2008, will miss six months and will be placed on the team's Season-Ending Injury List.
Mendes played in 12 games this season, starting in 11. The Mineola, NY native has been with the team since 2005 and has made 107 appearances for the New York - ninth-most all-time in club history.
