Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs offense continued to roll on Sunday as the club knocked off the Bloomington PrairieThunder 7-3 at the Rockford MetroCentre. Rockford extended its unbeaten streak to a season high six games (6-0-1) and have tallied 29 goals in its last five contests (5.80 goals per game).

In the opening period, Rockford charged out to a 2-0 advantage. Short a d-man, Bryce Cockburn was moved from center to the blueline and he netted his fourth goal of the season, blasting home the marker past Steffan Braunlich at 6:55. Center Preston Mizzi then tallied on the power play at 16:22 when his shot from the point was deflected, chasing Braunlich from the game.

Bloomington winger Tyler Rennette cut the lead in half in the second period, firing in a perfect centering feed from Alex Goupil at 2:30. Just :37 later, however, Jesse Bennefield got the goal back for Rockford when he hammered in his 15th goal of the season past Jeff Reynaert. On another power play, winger Nicolas Corbeil potted his team-leading 17th goal of the campaign at 5:26, putting Rockford up 4-1.

The crazy second frame continued, as PrairieThunder winger Jon Booras slipped a goal past Hogs goalie Frederic Cloutier at 5:26 to make the score 4-2. Rockford winger Jason Notermann retaliated just :23 later, giving Rockford its three-goal lead back, back-handing in his third goal of the season. Just before the break Bloomington's Shawn Roed cut the deficit back down to a pair with a power-play goal at 18:44, making it 5-3.

That's as close as Bloomington would get as Rockford winger Jason Ralph began to break the game open in the third. Ralph buried his second goal of the season at 2:44 before Mizzi put the game out of reach with a short-handed lamp lighter at 10:05.

Cloutier earned another win, turning away 27 shots and Dayne Pyfer, inserted for the final 1:41, made one save in his professional debut. Reynaert took the loss blocking 18 Rockford shots. The Hogs finished 2-for-8 on the power play while Bloomington went 1-for-6. Mizzi extended his goal scoring streak to four straight games.

Next Home Game: Wednesday, Jan. 24 vs. Elmira Jackals. The Jackals make their first of three visits to the MetroCentre. Wednesday is another Dollar Days with the IceHogs and WXRX
