Snohomish County Explosion News Release

Tacoma, Wash. - June 13, 2008 - The night belong to the Explosion and last years team MVP Murray showed why the Explosion have excitement as they approach the Playoffs. Third place for the playoffs is still in reach for the Explosion but they will need some help. With three Explosion wins in the last three games and two losses by the Edmonton Chill the Explosion can mathematically capture third place in the West Division behind both Bellingham and Vancouver.

The Explosion defeated Tacoma 147-129 as they took an 80-64 lead at halftime down in Tacoma. Murray had 14 rebounds to go with his 58 points but not to be overlooked was the play from Jamaal Miller with 23 points, and Troy Gwynn grabbing 15 points and physical play that helped set the tempo for a physical game. The game got a bit out of hand as Tacoma who has struggled all season long was hit with 6 technical fouls two from the coaching staff and four from players on the court with having two player ejected. The fireworks happened after Tacoma's Ike O'Hanson turned the night into a chair throwing event sending seats onto the court and stands. The Explosion had fireworks all night as the defense forced Tacoma into 20 turnovers leading to fastbreak slam dunks all night in the open court.

"Tonight was a game that no matter how many people were guarding Murray he was unstoppable," said Nathan Mumm, owner of the Explosion organization. "Even with a double team Justin was not going to be denied as he kept going to the basket time after time. The best part was with Watts running the show from the point he setup the team all night and this was the best I have seen him all year running the show."

The Explosion move to a 11-9 record after their win against Tacoma, with three regular season games left to play. They face the Central Oregon Hotshots this Saturday, June 14th at 7:15pm in the Monroe Sports Arena at Monroe High School.
