Edmonton Chill News Release
Holland, IN - With the club's seven guys playing their seventh game in nine nights it was vital that the team play it close or with a lead to conserve energy. Unfortunately they were not able to do so and dropped their fifth game on the trip 137-122.
The exhausted Chill kept things close early in the first as the lead changed hands several times before Holland put together a run by executing their offense to open up shooters beyond the arch, dropping a dozen deep balls in the first half and taking a 46-28 lead after the opening 12 minutes. The visitors were able to rally in the second quarter behind their defense holding the Blast to just 19 points before the half. The big moment came when Rashaun Broadus took a full court pass from Stephen Parker after a steal. Broadus was fouled hard by Dominick Melton, who was charged with a flagrant foul, and the Chill made their run to get it to a three point halftime deficit, 65-62.
Edmonton came out for the second half determined and after allowing the lead to grow to 10, they fought back again to tie the game, and even had a possession to take the lead, but could never get over that hump. Holland then made a run of their own, pushing the lead back to 10. It seemed at that point the weary warriors were just out of gas. The seven players continued to fight to the final horn, but as the legs got tired the shots were falling short and they could not get to the glass or the many loose balls that floated around the Holland Civic Center.
Lee Scruggs was the high scorer for the Chill as his 26 was one of four Edmonton players to top 20 points, Rashaun Broadus dropped 25, Marco Morgan had his second straight 23 point effort, and JR Patrick came alive with 16 of his 22 in the final 24 minutes. Scruggs and Patrick also each collected a team high 11 boards.
From here the team begins the saga home to Edmonton and a much needed six day break before they close out their home schedule next week against the Vancouver Volcanos.
