Rome Renegades News Release

Just for the record, when we published this story last week, the heading from the stat analysis indicated that stats were updated through June 9, we added in the last game before we published this story. Problem was that two games were left out of the original statistical data. We regret the error. Only the numbers change.

Gerald Gales owns the Rome Renegades record book for receiving in his second year with the team, Gales has caught 29 touchdown passes this year, easily surpassing the previous record of 13 set last year by Clinton Rafe. He's snared 100 passes for 1,605 yards, both bettering team highs that he set in Rome inaugural indoor season. In fact, Gales has more than doubled his yardage from a year ago when he caught 68 passes for 674 yards.

He's far from the Renegades only weapon heading into Monday night's play-off game with the Chattahoochee Valley Vipers. Running back Lew Thomas has carried the ball 91 times for 420 yards, the latter another new record for the Renegades.

Quarterback Bo Bartik is rounding back into the form that he showed last year leading Rome to the NIFL championship game. Bartik has thrown 16 touchdown passes in limited action during the second half of the season after Marcus Brady was called up by the Montreal Alouettes.

Defensively, Charles Jones has doubled last year's interception high with 16 picks but he's fighting to lead the team in that category as 'Pick Pack' mate Jermaine Collins has stolen 14 enemy passes on the season.

Kicker Danny Marshall set a league record, and of course, team record with a 57 yard field goal against Daytona Beach. He's scored 125 points this season, a new team record, oops, it would be a record except that Gerald Gales has scored 206 points this year. That's the new Renegade record.

All of that is history though as Rome prepares to go to battle Monday night with the Chattahoochee Valley Vipers in round one of the AIFL play offs Monday night at the Forum at 7:00. The first 350 people who arrive prior to 6:30 will receive a Richie the Renegade bobblehead doll.
