Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-2 on Tuesday night at Prospera place in Kelowna.
It took until only 1:52 remaining in the first frame but Rockets Captain Cal Foote opened the scoring with his 11th of the season and Kelowna led 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.
Unlike the first period Kelowna scored early in the second as Leif Mattson pick-pocketed two Tigers defencemen at 1:35 and ripped his 18th of the season to give the Rockets a two goal cushion. They extended that lead to three at 8:42 as Carsen Twarynski(32) scored on a Rockets 5-on-3 power play. Medicine Hat collected a power play goal of their own as David Quenneville(21) cut into the Rockets lead, but Kole Lind(27) regained the three goal lead at 18:54 and Kelowna led 4-1 after 40 minutes.
At 5:05 of the final frame Dawson Heathcote(6) cut the Rockets lead to 4-2. With 32 seconds remaining Dillon Dube(22) scored on the empty net to seal it 5-2 for Kelowna.
The Rockets enjoyed multi-point evenings from Dillon Dube(1G, 2A), Cal Foote(1G, 2A), and Kole Lind(1G, 1A).
Brodan Salmond's record improves to 6-5-0-1 after stopping 31 of 33 shots he faced. The Rockets outshot the Tigers 44-33.
Kelowna's record improves to 32-14-3-1.
The Rockets are back in action on Friday in the first game of a home-and-home against the Western Conference leading Everett Silvertips. Friday night goes at 7:05pm at Prospera Place. The next evening the Rockets visit the Tips for the second half of the home-and-home.
