Raleigh Rebels News Release

RALEIGH NC - The Raleigh Rebels continued their winning ways with a 65-32 victory Thursday night over the Daytona Beach Thunder at The Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. For the second straight week the defense came up big as the Rebels forced six turnovers, 3 of which were interceptions by defensive back Montrail Pittman. Pittman was the Special Teams Player of the week for Week 1 of the AIFL season.

The Rebels scored first as Fullback Charles Washington would rumble in from 12-yards out. The Thunder came right back as Robert Bailey took the ensuing kick back 50 yards for a touchdown. The teams went back and forth until the second quarter when the Rebel's broke the game open as Raleigh quarterback David Malino would find Lavel Bailey for consecutive touchdown passes of 32 and 44 yards. Then runs by Malino from 1-yard out and a 15-yard run by running back Cotra Jackson would give the Rebels a 42-26 halftime advantage.

In the second half the defense would take over as defensive back Eddie Ravenell took a Thunder pass 23-yards the other direction for a touchdown. Later Montrail Pittman would return another Daytona pass the other way 35-yards for a touchdown. The Rebel's then closed out the scoring with a sack for a safety by Defensive MVP Issac Mooring. Defensive MVP lineman Terrance Chapman also added another two sacks as the final 8 minutes of the game would remain scoreless, sealing the win for the Rebels. Lavel Bailey was named the offensive MVP with 5 catches for 139 yards and three touchdowns.
