Real Salt Lake News Release
After traveling east the last two weekends, Real Salt Lake (1-3-1, 4 pts.) will return to Utah in full force this week with a pair of contests against California sides, beginning with a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup "Play-In" contest against the San Jose Earthquakes (1-3-0, 3 pts.) this Wednesday, April 30. Kick-off for the contest, RSL's special "Green Awareness Game" presented by FIJI Water, Wasatch Metal Recycling, Redwood Recycling, and SanSegal, is slated for a 7:00 p.m. MT start.
All RSL Royal Club members have Wednesday's RSL-âQuakes contest included in their season ticket packages, but fans still looking for seats can purchase their tickets by calling the RSL offices at 801-924-8585, in person at the RSL office at 515 S. 700 East, Suite #2R (Trolley Corners building) in downtown Salt Lake City, or online by visiting www.RealSaltLake.com. Wednesday's match will not be televised, but fans that cannot make it can follow the action on RSL's radio partners KALL 700 Sports (English) and Ke Buena 1600 AM (Spanish), with KALL 700 Sports' coverage beginning with RSL First Kick at 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday's contest will mark the renewal of the Real Salt Lake-San Jose series, which ended after only one year when the Earthquakes were moved to Houston following the 2005 MLS season. RSL went 0-2-2 in its four regular season meetings that year, which included a 2-2 draw (4/30/05) and 1-0 loss (8/20/05) in their contests at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Wednesday's match will mark the first of three potential "Play-In" round contests either side will need to win to simply qualify for this summer's 95th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, with the victor moving on to Central Ohio on May 27 to take on the Columbus Crew in a second MLS qualifying affair.
Beckham & Donovan Lead L.A. Galaxy into Lone Rice-Eccles Stadium Visit of 2008 Saturday
After Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup qualifier, Real Salt Lake will return to League play this Saturday, May 3, when Utah's side will welcome superstar David Beckham, MLS's leading scorer Landon Donovan and the rest of the Los Angeles Galaxy (2-2-1, 7 pts.) for their lone visit to Salt Lake City this season in a match-up presented by Comcast Digital Voice. Kick-off from Rice-Eccles Stadium is slated for 7:00 p.m. MT, with television coverage on KSL-DT 5.3 - the local NBC affiliate's over-the-air digital signal (also available on Comcast Cable channel 105) - beginning with a 30-minute pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. Fans across Utah can also follow the action live on the radio via KALL 700 Sports and Ke Buena 1600 AM.
Tickets for the contest are still available and can purchased by calling the RSL offices at 801-924-8585, in person at the RSL office at 515 S. 700 East, Suite #2R (Trolley Corners building) in downtown Salt Lake City, or online by visiting www.RealSaltLake.com.
Saturday's affair will mark the first of just two meetings between the Western Conference foes this season, with the second set for The Home Depot Center on Sept. 6. RSL has a chance to even up the all-time series against the Galaxy, the Utah side's record now standing at 4-5-2 after going 1-1-1 against Los Angeles in 2007. Real Salt Lake is 2-1-2 all-time at Rice-Eccles Stadium against the Galaxy, the two sides dueling to an exciting 2-2 draw in their latest match-up on the hill last Sept. 19.

RSL Rewind: No Sweep in Sight at D.C. United Downs RSL 4-1
Real Salt Lake had an early season series sweep in its sights last Saturday night, but D.C. United had other ideas, using a pair of penalty kick conversions before the hour mark from Jaime Moreno and never looking back in a 4-1victory over RSL at RFK Stadium. Moreno, the League's all-time leading scorer, chipped his first spot kick in the 31st minute past a diving Nick Rimando to put the home side up 1-0 and followed with another conversion in the 52nd minute, a blast into the upper left corner, to double the advantage. United MF Santino Quaranta looked to put the game far out of reach in the 67th minute, his first-touch effort pushing the lead to 3-0, but RSL MF Carey Talley got that one back 10 minutes later when he ushered in a corner kick that redirected off rookie DF Tony Beltran, pushing the score to 3-1. That scoreline would last just three minutes, however, as United playmaker Marcelo Gallardo hit perhaps the best goal in MLS so far this season, a near-angle, full-volley into the roof of the net that ended the scoring in a match D.C. desperately wanted after falling 4-0 at RSL just two weeks prior.
