Real Salt Lake Weekly Update

Real Salt Lake News Release

Real Salt Lake Looking to End Streaks Saturday at L.A. Galaxy

Real Salt Lake (3-6-3, 12 pts.) will look to end its own seven-game MLS winless streak and the 10-game undefeated streak of the Los Angeles Galaxy (2-1-9, 15 pts.) when the two squads meet up this Saturday, June 13, at The Home Depot Center. Kickoff from the campus of CSU-Dominguez Hills in Carson, Calif., is set for 8:30 p.m. MT for a contest that will be televised live on KUTV 2.2 Digital (Comcast 111), beginning with the America First Credit Union Pre-Match Report at 8:00 p.m. Fans can also tune in to RSL's official radio partners: KALL 700 Sports (America First Credit Union Pre-Match Report begins at 7:30 p.m.) and "Ke Buena" 1600-AM.

Saturday's SoCal affair will mark the second and final meeting in 2009 between RSL and Los Angeles, the two sides' first contest just over a month ago on May 6 ending in a wild 2-2 draw. In that match - only the second in MLS history to feature three goals in second half stoppage time - Landon Donovan (91+') and Will Johnson (92+') penalty kicks cancelled each other out and resulted in a late 2-1 RSL lead, but Mike Magee's last-second strike resulted in a share of the spoils. That draw brought RSL's record in the all-time series against Los Angeles to 4-5-5, which includes a 2-4-1 mark in games at The Home Depot Center, where the Utah side has claimed its first road victory in each of the last three seasons, twice against the Galaxy in 2006 and 2007 and last season against Chivas USA.

Movsisyan Strike One of Six MLS Goal of the Week Nominees

Real Salt Lake FW Yura Movsisyan's return to the scoresheet last Saturday not only helped garner his squad a point, but the goal was also named one of six nominees up for the MLS Goal of the Week honor. Fans can watch and vote for Movsisyan's 79th minute goal - an off-balance, left-footed effort that snuck inside the far left post - by heading over to www.MLSnet.com and clicking on the "Goal of the Week" panel on the site's homepage through Wednesday morning.

RSL Under-18 Team Falls Just Short of Knockout Phase at Comunidad de Madrid Tournament

The Real Salt Lake Under-18 Team represented Major League Soccer proudly in the fifth edition of the prestigious Mundial de Clubes Sub-18 Comunidad de Madrid tournament in Spain, but it's bid to become the first MLS side in the competition to reach the knockout phase fell just short of fruition. The RSL U-18s earned draws from its first two Group D contests, first using a Nick Marshall goal to earn a 1-1 result against powerful Serbian squad Partizan de Belgrado before taking a point from a thrilling 3-3 draw with Spain's RCD Espanyol, a contest in which the Americans came from behind on two occasions to get the result. With a quarterfinal berth on the line, Real Salt Lake fought hard in the final pool match against Rayo Vallecano, only to see a 73rd minute goal by the Spaniards hold up and send RSL to a 1-0 defeat, ending its run in Madrid with a respectable 0-1-2 record. The entire Real Salt Lake family would like to congratulate and thank the RSL Under-18 Team players and staff members for representing the club and Major League Soccer with dignity both on and off the field during the squad's remarkable trip to Madrid.

2009 MLS All-Star Game Just 50 Days Away!

Only 50 days remain until the 2009 MLS All-Star Game comes to the home of Real Salt Lake, Rio Tinto Stadium, where the best and brightest of America's domestic league will take on legendary English Premier League side Everton FC on Wednesday, July 29 (live on ESPN2 and Galavision at 7:30 p.m. MT). This midseason showcase will continue the theme of "MLS Takes on the World," a format in which the MLS All-Star team has gone 5-0 in against international club opposition since 2003.

Tickets to the 2009 MLS All-Star Game are now on sale to the public, with prices starting at $35 (North Goal, South Goal and Upper Deck), and continuing at $45 (Corner Flag), $60 (Lower Sidelines), $105 (Front Row and Midfield) and $200 (Club Seats). All Real Salt Lake season ticket holders are assured of their current seats for the 2009 MLS All-Star Game. To purchase tickets for this summer's biggest sporting event, please visit www.RioTintoStadium.com, call 800-838-3380, or visit the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office, open Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Polls Still Open for 2009 MLS All-Star Game Online Voting

It seems the 2009 MLS All-Stars will be "going green" if the online balloting is any indication, as 10 of the top 11 vote-getters thus far are members of expansion newcomers Seattle Sounders FC. Do your part to balance out the votes by heading to www.MLSnet.com to select the 11 players you would like to see take on English Premier League club Everton FC right here at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy on Wednesday, July 29. A dozen players for each of Major League Soccer's 15 clubs are on the ballot this year, including Real Salt Lake's leading scorer Robbie Findley, imposing Colombian defender Jamison Olave, captain Kyle Beckerman, and playmaker Javier Morales.

Fans can vote for the All-Star First XI online by selecting one goalkeeper, three defenders, five midfielders, and two forwards. Fans can vote up to 10 times per day. The online fan balloting program, which concludes on Monday, July 6, will comprise 25 percent of the total vote for the All-Star First XI, with coaches and general managers, players, and media each holding 25 percent of the vote.
