Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah (Tuesday, October 13, 2009) - Real Salt Lake (9-11-7, 34 pts.) will end its club-record 18-day break from League action tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14, when the New York Red Bulls (4-18-6, 18 pts.) will return to Sandy for the first time since claiming the 2008 Western Conference Championship last November. Kickoff from Rio Tinto Stadium for Wednesday's clash, presented by Rio Tinto, is slated for 8:00 p.m. MT. The RSL-Red Bulls match will be broadcast live nationwide on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes and can also be followed on RSL's official radio partners - KALL 700 Sports (English) and Ke Buena 1600-AM (Spanish).
Tickets for the grudge match with New York are still available and can be purchased over the phone at 800-838-3380, online to www.RioTintoStadium.com, or in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office in person during regular business hours on Tuesday (10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.) and beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Real Salt Lake continues to search for its first-ever win against the Red Bulls franchise, having gone 0-4-6 against New York in 10 previous games, including last year's postseason meeting. The two sides met early on in the 2009 campaign at Giants Stadium back on April 18, when New York used a quick goal just two minutes in by Mac Kandji to pace itself to a 2-0 victory over the Utahns. Real Salt Lake remains undefeated at home in regular season play against New York after settling for ties in four such previous meetings, including a 1-1 draw in the first-ever game at RSL's new Rio Tinto Stadium home last Oct. 9. But that home undefeated streak ended in heart-breaking fashion five weeks later on Nov. 15, when a Dave van den Bergh tally marked the only goal in New York's 1-0 triumph over RSL in the Western Conference Championship, denying the Utah side a berth to its first MLS Cup Final.
